“I have to say that working with Baldasso Cortese has been an absolute dream. Working with Architects who listen, who actually try and determine what your vision really is and what is it that you really want to achieve with your building. We have had numerous meetings with so many different people and the key thing for me was you always listened” ~ Sholto Bowen OAM, Huntingtower School Principal

The state-of-the-art performing arts centre is a curved structure featuring unique design elements such as a curved feature precast façade, cantilevered curved staircases, high-level steel gantries, and segmented high-performance curtain wall faceted glazing spanning full height over the two-tiered auditorium, which can seat up to 759 people.
The centre includes an elevated lecture stand, performance and presentation platforms, ticketing booth and cloakroom facilities. This space is filled with unique modern pendant lights, wood-form timber feature walls and links to the existing drama and VCE centre.
The design incorporates a lower level featuring voids for the lift pit, orchestra pit and air plenums specifically designed for the effective flow of the mechanical system supply air, return air and localised diffusers beneath each auditorium chair.
Huntingtower school believes music and performing arts have lasting benefit for their students. It was clear that the design of the new Huntingtower School Performing Arts Centre was important to the school.
They requested a facility with 750 seats and the ability to accommodate a 160-person choir and full orchestra, a high-quality space suitable for music, performance and school assembly.
Baldasso Cortese designed a dramatic, drum-shaped building with significant visual impact. It sits in the front of the school and presents a strong and impressive public interface. Interiors are well handled to accommodate important sight line and acoustic parameters with quality materials and finishes rounding out an excellent space.
