New Children’s Centre for the Surf Coast Shire includes 103 place childcare / early learning, maternal health, family counselling, allied health and community services.

Located in Torquay North, the new centre forms part of the Surf Coast Shire’s new Community Precinct, with the design response working not just with the other facilities in the area, but also taking into account the surrounding environment reflected by the shapes and finishes.

With a focus on sustainable design, rammed earth walls, rainwater collection and natural ventilation were utilised, with an overall focus on light, open spaces to create a warm, inviting and inclusive space for users of all ages.

The central courtyard allows light into the central core of the building and provides an interactive space for the childcare groups to grow vegetables and gain an understanding of rainwater use. The outdoor play areas also provide interactive, tactile and flexible play spaces.
