The brief called for a new facility for 150 staff, 83 relocated from existing police stations in the region and 67 new staff to meet the operational needs of a growing community.

The site is characterised by its natural environment. Located at a key intersection and bounded by residential homes, the design considers its context and character whilst providing a civic presence.

The building is situated to conserve existing trees, its curving shape informed by the natural contours.

The ground floor is a solid precast concrete structure to provide a sense of permanence and protection. The star-shaped form of the upper level is intended to reference Victoria Police’s five core values and reach out to the community. The Corten steel cladding responds to the colour of fallen leaves and the pine cones of local trees.

This association with landscape continues internally through the use of timber panelling. Warm and textural spotted gum provides an accent to an otherwise neutral palette. Large windows provide tree-top views and permit light to filter down into offices.
