Project Completed by Baade Harbour Geelong (BHA)
The existing Warracknabeal campus of Rural Northwest Health consisted of a significant number of separate buildings on different levels, spread over the existing site.
The challenge for the consultant team was to integrate all of the proposed health services into a single efficiently planned and operating facility, where the building would become an icon for the local community. Following an extensive review, the existing site was selected for redevelopment and will be implemented in stages, with the first stage being funded by the Department.
The sweeping roof form at the entry and over the central core provides a prominent feature, whilst the 4 aged care wings each containing 15 beds are based on typical rural forms and scale. Located in a very dry part of rural Victoria, it was critical that the Hospital implement and promote water saving principles to the local community.
The project includes the collection and treatment of rainwater for drinking and grey water for garden watering, together with provision for toilet flushing.
